Case study · Bar & grill

Yes at the table. Live the same day.

House of Coates is a burger bar and grill in Coates, just off Highway 52 near Rosemount. It had no website of its own. We built one first, and on October 19, 2026, the owners said yes at a sit-down. The site went live on houseofcoates.com that day, with both printed menus added from photos taken at the table.

houseofcoates.com · the homepage

House of Coates sits at Highway 52 and County Road 46 in Coates, the corner printed on the front of both of its menus. Its printed menu calls the burgers World Famous Burgers (at least throughout the County), and more than 1,800 people have reviewed it on Google. We built a preview of its website in early October 2026, before anyone had asked for one, and the owners saw it that month. On October 19, 2026, they said yes at a sit-down. That day the printed lunch and dinner menus were typed in from photos taken at the table, and the site went live on houseofcoates.com.

Before

Where they started

House of Coates runs on two printed menus. The lunch menu has a green Daily Lunch Special board; the dinner menu adds the steaks, the full dinners and a Nightly Dinner Special for every night of the week. Both carry the World Famous Burgers, which the menu says average half a pound of lean ground beef and are not pre-made patties, and both carry the broasted chicken.

None of that was online in the restaurant's own words. House of Coates had no website, and when we checked its Google listing between October 2 and October 14, 2026, the Website button sent people to an unrelated site that wasn't the restaurant's. Someone who tapped it looking for tonight's special or the hours found neither. Our Google Business Profile checklist puts it plainly: that button should open your own site.

What the site had to do

  • Put the lunch menu and the dinner menu online as text, exactly as they're printed
  • Open on the menu the kitchen is serving at that moment, with the other one a tap away
  • Show the Daily Lunch Special where the lunch crowd looks first
  • Make the phone the way in: one big call button, the hours and directions, nothing to fill in
  • Give the restaurant an address of its own for its listings to point to

The work

What we built, and why

  1. 01

Both printed menus, word for word

The lunch menu and the dinner menu were typed in from photos of the printed menus taken at the sit-down, then read back against those photos line by line, price by price. The menus keep their own names, spellings and asides, including the line that the burgers are known the world over (at least throughout the County). The dinner menu brings its own sections: Sidewinders, Dinners, Steaks and the Nightly Dinner Specials, with tonight's special marked.

  2. 02

A Lunch | Dinner switch that knows the hour

The menu page opens on whichever menu is being served in Coates when someone looks, judged by the clock in Coates rather than the visitor's own, so a phone set to another time zone still opens on the right one. One tap switches to the other menu. Each menu also has its own link, so a link to the dinner menu always opens dinner. The switch rides in the row of menu sections that stays at the top of the screen as you scroll.

  3. 03

The Daily Lunch Special, up front

The homepage puts the lunch menu's green Daily Lunch Special board beside a photo of the restaurant's sign, with today's line marked. Like the menu switch, the board goes by the day in Coates, so the marked line is the one the kitchen is actually serving.

  4. 04

Half a pound, in the menu's words

The homepage's burger board carries the five World Famous Burgers with the menu's own descriptions, then the 1/3 pound burgers For the More Conservative Eater. The broasted chicken follows by the quarter or the half, white, dark or mixed, beside the steak and the ribs, each the way the lunch menu lists it.

  5. 05

    Call first

The contact page is built around the phone. The number is the big button, with the address and a directions link under it, then the week's hours and whether the restaurant is open right now. There's no form to fill in and wait on: the page says the fastest way to reach House of Coates is to call or stop in.

  6. 06

Open now, every day of the week

The hours show on the homepage, the Hours & Directions page and the contact page, each with a line saying whether House of Coates is open at that moment and until when. Dine-in and to-go ordering are listed beside them, and the visit section adds a map and a link for directions.

  7. 07

    Ready for search

Every page carries its own title, description and share card, the site publishes a sitemap, and the code describes the restaurant to search engines: its name, address, phone and hours, plus both menus as structured data. It was open to search engines from the day it launched, which is where any local SEO work begins.

Build log

The dates, as they happened

  1. Day 0

    The preview, built first

We built the site on a preview address before the restaurant had agreed to anything, the way every free homepage preview starts.

  2. Day 17

    Yes at a sit-down

The owners said yes, and both printed menus, lunch and dinner, were photographed at the table so the site could carry them word for word.

  3. Day 17

    Live on houseofcoates.com

The site went live on the restaurant's own domain the same day, with the two menus typed in and the Lunch | Dinner switch in place, open to search engines from launch.

What’s running on houseofcoates.com

  • A website of its own

Since October 19, 2026, houseofcoates.com has carried both menus, the hours and the phone number. Before that, House of Coates had no site of its own to send anyone to.

  • The paper and the screen say the same thing

Every line on the menu page comes from the menus printed for the dining room, so what a guest reads on a phone in the parking lot matches the printed menu inside.

  • The right menu at the right hour

A visitor at noon lands on lunch and one in the evening lands on dinner, without hunting for a tab. It's the same idea as the lunch and dinner switch we built for Tasca Madrid, shaped around House of Coates' own two menus.

  • Live the day of the yes

The site was already built, so the day the owners agreed was about the menus and the domain, not about starting over. Every restaurant and bar site we take on starts the same way.

  • It started with a free preview

The owners saw the whole site before they agreed to anything, which is how every business starts with us: a free preview of your homepage, built on your real business.
